WTB - transmission bands with heavy duty lining

Post by blauvelt » Thu Jun 20, 2024 11:49 pm

Looking for a single/set of bands with "caterpillar" automatic transmission lining. At least I think that is what it is. Thank you.

Not sure what caterpillar automatic transmission linings are but I do know if you lose your brake band going down hill your butterfly.

With the ready availability of hard wearing kevlar linings with proven performance, what is the need for the caterpillar linings?

Used and like it. Understand that many don't after using that style of lining on their bands. Figured I'd see if anyone has a set they have laying around that need a new home.

I hope he is not talking of band lining like the use in overhead cranes and older brake shoes, they have brass or copper strands in them, that is really bad on the babbitt.

I understand that lining was used in forklifts - it is quite hard !

Back in the 1970’s before there was Kevlar and maybe even wood bands there were , bonded bands , that used a lining material from drag line cable cranes , cable clutches . The kind I remember didn’t have an embedded metal but they were hard on the Model T drums and required filing an oil grove in the lining at the bottom. The kind I had in a Rajo speedster worked fine , but I would think using Kevlar today would work just as well and be easier on the T drums .
