Thanks Frank. Attached shows this valve in Gale Rodda's superb 1909 photo booklet. Been looking for this for years, and will now be installed on #3539.

Nice polish job! If you do a close up you can see Scott holding the phone to snap that picture.

The devil is in the details. Rodda's photo shows the tap tapered piece retained by a screw and an internal thread to hold the tapered piece in place, whereas Scott's new purchase with the correct tap shape is retained with a nut on an external thread. A trifling difference.

I was interested in the one at top left. It is just like the ones I had on my 1912 van, having the screw and internal thread to hold the tapered piece. But, it has a parallel thread and shoulder on the body, whereas mine have the same tapered thread as all the usual pan petcocks.

The screw on the early ones does not always keep the tap turned off. Fortunately, when mine opened up I was just 50 metres from a stop at our T clubrooms, so the trail was spotted early. The spring, washer and split pin assembly on the later petcocks is a far better idea, maintaining a load on the taper at all times.

Allan from down under.

Would be curious to know who produced these...one mfr? 100 years ago we had Lunkeheimer and Powel Valve here in Cinti. May not be either, but would be interesting study.

My 12 REO has similar look, similar application, but with 1/4 NPT thread. Unfortunately no mfr name or hallmarks.

Some of my old petcocks were mad by BUCKEYE BRASS of Dayton OH. They made all sorts of brass items for autos and traction engines. Estabished in the 1860s and in business until 1965.
