Found one/Wanted- 1914 runabout door latch

Post by Corey Walker » Thu Oct 31, 2024 12:10 pm

I’m looking for a door latch for my runabout. I’ve determined that there were 2 different ones, don’t know if it was because of 2 body makers or what but the handle is in a slightly different spot. The one I need has the handle closer to the rear.
It is easily identifiable by where the handle goes into the latch assembly. The one I have is the one where you can see a space there and the one I need has a round part integral with the handle that fills in the round hole in the latch and no light can be seen on either side.
I bought an interior from a car with this style latch and the hole for the handle off enough that it won’t go through and the panel fit the door correctly. I had a post on the forum a while back on this and was suggested to bend my handle but that won’t make a difference because it still would originate in the same position and not go through the hole regardless if it were bent one way or the other.

Do you need the striker plate for the door jam, too?

Keith, I have the striker plate. Unfortunately I have the same latch that you have there already. The one that you can’t see the light through where the handle goes in is a shorter distance from the handle to the rear of the latch. It’s only a 1/2 or 3/4” difference but it makes a difference to match the hole in my door panel that came from a car with that type latch. Thanks though.

This is the latch that Corey needs, it is on the 14 that the interior came out of. Art

Thanks Art, yes that is the one with no daylight showing around the handle. The other style that I have now is 2 1/4” at the spot where the other is 1 1/2”.
