FS Hand Crank Siren (SOLD)

Post by ThreePedalTapDancer » Sun Jan 05, 2025 4:40 pm

Vintage hand crank police, ambulance, or fire truck siren. Excellent condition. This heavy duty siren is very, very loud. It is very well made, and has steel precision cut internal gears and uses ball bearings. No damage to gear teeth. It works perfect, turns smooth, and has been greased and lubed, ready to mount and use. It is a beast, weighing in at 10 lbs. 6.25 diameter bell. 11 inch from front of bell to rear of handle. You will definitely wake up the whole neighborhood as well as those in the nearby cemetery. 495 includes shipping.

Was that siren made in China?

I have never seen one like that!

I doubt it, the thing weighs 10lbs! I doubt there's that much metal in all of China!

Impressive siren.
Just a 20 year old who listens to 40 year old music, works on 75 year old airplanes and drives 100 year old cars.
The past is only simple because hindsight is 20/20.

I am unsure of this particular manufacturer, however it definitely was not made in China. It is very well made, with precision, and is similar internally to the Sterling Sirens of the era. I have owned and restored many sirens over the years, and I restored this early Sterling that was sold to a collector last year. This siren is more robust and better made than the Sterling in some ways. There were many manufacturers of hand crank sirens back in the day, many copying each other’s designs in some respect. When sirens turned electric, the hand cranked ones were often junked or thrown away. Well made sirens were not toys, they were designed for heavy abuse and use, military and civilian.
