Glassworkers head for working with "spun glass" and glass tubing. You wanted the hot spot where both flames cross each other (ergo the adjustability of it).
(One of my long ago former coworker's brother had a custom neon sign shop; each of his workstations had these heads mounted to a workbench to bend tubes and do assembly work. VERY cool way to make a living. and yeah, a very cool find. )
