Length of Door Straps

Post by BLB27 » Fri Dec 31, 2021 2:52 pm

The vendors sell 6", 7", and 8" straps. Which one is must commonly used on coupes? Mine is a 1927 coupe.

The 26-27 closed car door check straps are black molded rubber straps with loops at both ends. Length from center of loop to center of loop is 7 5/8 - 7 3/4, 1 5/16 wide, 1/4 thick not including the loops according to the Ford drawing. Same kind of strap used on Model A closed cars. Modern model A repos are not the exact length as 26-27, but a little longer is better than a little shorter. They attach with footman loops. Same door check straps are also used on 24-25 fordoor sedan according to the drawing. Snyders Antique Auto Parts Model A catalog P/N A-162592-8, is 8" total length which works well for the 26-27 coupe.

I got the rubber ones for my ‘26 coupe and apparently, they were not long enough, because the first time I opened the doors wide, they broke at the loop, so, I would advise getting the 8” ones. Jim Patrick
