Stevens Drive Shaft Sleeve Puller, dimenesions/detail needed.

Post by Pep C Strebeck » Fri Apr 19, 2019 6:53 pm

I need to make a replacement part for a Stevens Drive Shaft Sleeve Puller, T-122 and I am in need of some dimensions/details so I may be able to make the missing piece.

The part/piece in question is the small piece that fits over the threads on the end of the drive shaft and onto the end of the screw handle.

If anyone would have one that they would be willing to share the dimensions of and some photos, that would be very helpful for making a replacement (diameter, depth of the holes, etc.). For those that may have one of these tools; Does the piece in question bottom out on the shoulder at the bottom of the threads (on the drive shaft) or does it press on the actual threaded portion of the drive shaft? Thank you for the time and help, it is very much appreciated.

I do not know for certain, but believe that you will eventually find that the part threads onto the axle and bottoms on the end of the axle (acting like an upside down castle nut as when pulling a wheel). I'll be curious to see what owners of complete tools eventually tell you.

Good luck with your info gathering.

I have the tool but I can’t get to the tool Crate right now. It will be about a month before I can help.

A side note to looking for an example of my missing piece, there were 3 versions of this tool:

The one that I have (and need to make the part for) is the type shown in the second photo. The only difference between the tools shown in the second and third photos would be the handle and the placement of the lettering/wording on the tool. The one in the second photo (handle missing/removed) has no end caps on it and there is a set screw in the square end of the screw that would hold the handle in place or allow it to be removed so you could use a wrench. The one in the third photo has nicely knurled end caps that would keep the handle from being removed.

Thank you for the help Travis, I will be looking forward to it. The image from the Stevens catalog shows that the piece in question "may" be knurled, going back to what Scott had said about it might be threaded onto the end of the drive shaft.

Any and all examples of this piece are welcomed and helpful.

Just wanted to bring this back to the top. Hopefully some folks have an example of the missing part that I need and could share some photos and dimensions. Thanks for looking and for your help.

Thank you Dean! Is it threaded in any way or is it just a sleeve that fits over the axle threads and the end of the screw on the puller? If I am seeing it right in the photo, it just looks as though it is a sleeve.

I looked at the end of the screw handle shown in the photo below:
IMG_6479_2_2.JPG
IMG_6480_2.JPG
The diameter of the end is 0.580" and the un-threaded portion in just shy of 0.125" in length (before the threads start). With the ID that you gave me, there would be about 0.020" clearance for the threaded end of the drive shaft. So it would appear to me that it is just a sleeve that bears the brunt of the force. The only other question I would have is, in the photo you posted it looks as though there is a chamfer on the inside of the sleeve, do you think that is "factory" or was it created from use?

Thank you again for posting the photo and for the dimension, they are very much appreciated.
