Front axle repair insert tap size?
I just received the threaded inserts and they come with no info, so I am wondering what size tap I will need to install the inserts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you must either use the Stevens Tool's reamer/tap with the frame (which you can do on your own), or take it to a competent machinist who is capable of doing the precision setup required to align the axle holes for the installation. They will know what drill and tap to use based on your insert.
Attempting to eye-ball a drill and a tap will likely lead to a ruined axle, and because of that, I will let someone else tell you the thread as I personally think it is a job which needs to be farmed out and don't want to contribute to a spoiled job.
In any event, good luck with your repair project...and please consult a competent job shop/machinist

Go on You Tube for Dan Hatch's axle insert / axle rebuilding video. You will need special tap/ reamer for the bottom & taper reamer for the top. You will also need the fixture to do this operation, Or a real good machinest with a Bridgeport mill.

Here is a link to video.

I also made the tooling, but not the frame. See my ad in classified.
Have a new batch of tooling in production now. Most likely the last.
Email me with questions. Thanks Dan

Re: Front axle repair insert tap size?
Thank you for the additional info but does anyone know the tap size? There is more than one way to skin a cat (although none that I know of where the cat likes it). If I had the service available that would be one thing but I have extra axles and want to try and fix this one, so tap size please.
