Getting another Model T running after decades

Post by Dave_Kriegel » Sun May 12, 2019 7:23 pm

Well I have had an interesting time revitalizing a Model T 1918 that has not been run for at least 45 years. You need good compression, good coils and timing and fuel to run. This car has ZERO compression, a rusted carb, bad coils, jury rigged spliced non ford wiring etc etc. Well it did have good tires and wheels, fair body ( touring) and the engine was not frozen. It had no starter nor generator so I knew I had to get the compression high. I started with the basics, pulled and measured the pistons and cylinder, ( slightly over standard cylinder, Honed, set the rings ordered .20 over to the minimum gaps, No electrical bus bar terminal, made one from wood and a copper strip to place at owners request under the coil box. Rewired car ground down to bare metal to get a good ground on the battery. Cleaned all the coil box terminals ( years of corrosion, and got good buzz. Found out commutator has a firing order of 1-2-3-4!!! Fuel tank tried to clean, no fuel flow to carb so I will work on that tomorrow. So only missing piece is fuel. I get a great deal of satisfaction on bringing an engine back to life !!! Hopefully this week !!! :D
