Floating transmission shafts
I'm looking at some old posts I missed and saw the one on "23 tranny on 26 block". Is there any chance Les or somebody would consider doing another run of the floating transmission shafts. I have 2 and would like a third and maybe a fourth. I'm sold on the concept and believe they may be the best way to protect the center main, preserve our limited crankshafts for the future, and maybe protect a new Skat investment. I remember many years ago Paul Vitco doing some deflection studies while running and pressing the pedals.

I believe Dan Hatch was licensed by Les to produce them in the USA but could be wrong.

I believe the last two bought for customers were in the $400 plus range each. But that was pre Covid 19

A local guy has “converted” some original Ford shafts into the “Floating Version”. It probably reduces the cost to about half. A option to consider!

Les: That is what my guy work out the kinks on, old Ford shafts. Only took him one, hate we lose him. Don’t think I will do anymore, cost too high and no one wants to do small runs of stuff. Have to do 50 and that is way too much to tie up.
The guy doing my Stevens inserts has to have close to 1000 pieces to do the job. And cost just keeps going up. I think he hopes it will run me off! Dan

Les, are the converted shafts machined to have the gear teeth pattern and then the outer ring made from bronze as with your design? Does the shaft need to be heat treated after machining? Thanks for your information about this!

Les, sorry; another question about the conversion process using a Ford shaft. In that method what is the outer ring made of, steel or bronze? And the flange of the shaft is faced thinner as well?

The outer ring is bronze and yes it is about.005” thicker than the steel “star”!
