Optima redtop 6v

Post by DHort » Tue Dec 05, 2023 1:56 pm

I keep getting notices from OReilly on FB for 20 percent off. You need to use a code they supply to get the 20 percent off. Usually it never works for the Optima battery, but this time it did. They never go on sale..And it states I can return the core to the local store. So I got the battery for $200 instead of $249. My last Optima lasted 11 years. Worth a try next time you see a discount.

You probably have a local store, but did the advertisment offering also include free shipping to your home?

Yes free shipping. I am in Milwaukee and it came from MN. Local store does not carry, but they will accept the core. ................ Optima headquarters and research facility are here in Milwaukee but they build the batteries in a state of the art factory in Mexico..........The code I used was COLD20, but it is probably expired by now. Can always try though.

We have a 20% off price from a local parts supply chain store at the moment. However, at 20% off the price they say it usually sells for is still way over the price i pay elsewhere on my workshop account.

Don't be afraid of batteries being made in Mexico... our 2017 VW Passat was delivered with a Mexico -made battery and lasted until 3 months ago when I did replace it with the yellow top Optima battery...... The red top in our 26 is running flawlessly.

Does the red top optima require a different charger as compared to the normal batteries?

I use the same charger on all my batteries. It is a smart charger, which selects the voltage of the battery connected and away it charges. However, it is not smart enough to recognise a totally flat battery when hooked up. It needs a surface charge to get started.

It is an AGM battery so I would suggest a charger made for AGM.

So how does a vehicle charging system know to charge for an AGM battery or is the thought more for a battery keeper/tender?
Everything works in theory.
Reality is how you determine if something works or not.

There are trickle chargers for AGM batteries that put out one amp or 2 amp for the 6 volt red top.
