Fore electric magnetizer

Hello, a club member is trying to find out information about his magnetizer and I thought I’d post it on here to see if anyone could help. Google has not turned up anything useful so far when searching “FORE ELECTRIC CO.” You can see a + and - symbol pressed into the wood next to the terminals. I’d like to find out what voltage to use and for how long to charge a magnet. We do know that this unit was used in the past and it is in good condition.

I believe it was originally connected to a 6 volt battery. Don't leave it connected for very long or it will become toast.

I own its grandfather that was made to charge magneto magnets.

James, what voltage does yours run off of and for how long do you charge the magnet?

I do not think it is a "how long" type of thing as much as how many times to "hit it" with the voltage. When charging in the car it is almost an instant type of connection, you just do it multiple times. So my guess is to throw the switch multiple times in fast intervals. When charging in the car it is not how long you "cook" it but how many times you "hammer" it with electric jolts. When I charge in the car I use three 12 volt batteries wired to give me 36 volts. I never used a single magnet charger so I can not really give a good answer for them .

I use this Allen Magnet Charger for charging magnets, and it used 6 Volts.

I Zap the magnet three times, laying on its side with a one inch over hang, flipped to the other side with a one inch over hang, and stood up in the middle area.

Each position gets a 5 second Zap.

Henry Ford says the magnet only has to lift an iron piston and they weigh about 2 1/2 pounds.

My magnets will lift two pistons taped together with no problem.
