Lang’s 26-27 roadster top bow wood set

Post by fordt » Sun May 05, 2024 1:16 pm

Anyone bought these straight pieces from Lang’s lately? Can you relate how long they are and possibly how long the dimensions are supposed to be? I’ve researched it pretty hard and the consensus seems to be 36.5” front iron and 35.5” for the back pair (that’s length between iron, with an extra ~2.5” on each end to fit into the iron).

Your windshield stanchions and clamps on the top irons will determine the length of the front wood bow. The others I cant help you with.

The rest is easy. When folded down the metal bows 'nest" together.

My windshield top irons are homemade, fabricated from other year top irons that I could find and made with the dimension help from this photo…

I really thought there’d be more improved roadsters out there to measure this….. :o

Here's the set of 3 ''26-'27 runabout new wood bows. The front bow is 36.5" long between the ends of the irons.

As your irons are home built, you may best resort to fitting the top clamps temporary to the metal iron and mount each on the windshield stanchions to really be sure of the overall length needed.

Thanks Dan! I found that same picture in my searches, but for some reason I thought it was for a touring with 4 bows and wasn’t sure it would cross over to roadsters, although the cowl and such are the same! Now to hear from Lang’s bout their bow lengths as I’ve posted the question to them.
Thanks again!

Here is what I did. The center and rear were placed as received from Langs. The front I put on the irons with the clamps attached with bolt Then placed on the front stanchens
Put one enend of the wood in place and then tried the other. I adjusted the wood to fit either putting almost all the way in, or trimming off the end and extending the notch on the other. Once I got it to fit, I used bolts and nuts to hold in place. The part is wrapped anyway so the bolts don't show.

While we’re talking measurements, is the outside to outside measurement on the front top irons (at front, just before the curve) the same as #2 and #3? Or does it go a little narrower or wider?
