Fifteen MIllionth Ford

Post by Arnie » Sat May 18, 2024 9:24 pm

I have been looking at the Model T Times May/June 2018 (#415) issue.

It has an article about the 15 million Ford. On page 14 it shows both a photo of the Touring taken in 1927 and also one taken after the vehicle was painted green.

I looked with magnification at both photos. Between the r and d in the Ford lettering is a curved line. The original looks to be positioned slightly different than when it was lettered again after the repaint!

What I am trying to determine is when it was originally painted blue , did it have pin striping? A picture on page 18 at the top may show pin striping, but I cannot tell for sure. Also I do not know for sure if this picture was before the vehicle was repainted. The line between the r and the d in Ford appears to me to indicate this picture was taken before the repaint.

Does anyone have a good picture of the vehicle when it was painted blue with the pin striping showing under the belt molding? It will not be a color picture, but perhaps the date on the back would give us an indication of if the was before or after the color was changed from blue to green

Narrow cream stripe shows up clearly on the original Gunmetal Blue pyroxylin paint shows in this close up. Stripe runs on the flat panels of door and body, but not over the moldings.

Thanks guys!

I now have faith in the Ford Brochure that stated open cars with colors were striped. I also was able to magnify the picture (with the aid of the computer enlargement) of the 15th million car on the assembly line and also see the stripe.

Perhaps some day they will stripe the 15th million Ford since its repaint in green!

I’d be interested in seeing the stamped number on the engine…

Here is the July 1927 assembly line photo of the 15th million engine on install.

And this is photo present day, of the 15th million engine, note the original photo shows nice paint contrast to the black fittings on the engine.
