The end of the narrow hogshead.
Sometime in February of 1911 the wider hogshead replaced the narrow hogshead though it had a similar look to the later narrow pan hogsheads. This design continued until # 39000 ish when the more familiar style hogshead was introduced. For you 1911 guys/gals, how many of you have a 1911 with the narrow pan & narrow hogshead. How about with the wider hogshead & wider one piece pan? Though I can’t find a reference to a new designed one piece pan to accommodate the wider hogshead, they must have existed. It wasn’t until March of 1911 (another source states June) that the pan with a removable inspection plate was introduced. How many of you 1911 caretakers have a real one piece pan with the wider hogshead with the rectangular inspection cover?

Joe, when I install the hogshead, I put the nut on the pedal shafts BEFORE fitting the cover. Can that not be done on LHD cars?

Re: The end of the narrow hogshead.
At one time dealers sold (maybe still do?) a weld on section that mimicked the one piece pan but used the wider hogs head and pan. So, guess to answer your question, you would need to know if it was one of those or something real.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: The end of the narrow hogshead.
I don’t know about the earliest hogsheads (square hole) but I always put the nuts on the pedal shafts before fitting the cover on my ‘13 LHD car.
