Brake band adjustment

Novice question, but how do you tighten up the nut and have the washer follow so the notches line up? I tighten the nut but the washer stays put. ???

Yes, the washer is notched and stays in the pedal shaft slot.

Also - you will "feel" when the notch in the nut engages the washer protrusion - they're 180 degrees apart.

What Steve said, in other words, you can only adjust the brake and reverse half a turn at a time.
