Looking for spare 21” Rim and mount for ‘26 Coupe. FOUND!!!

Post by Hangmancalif » Wed Jul 24, 2024 12:15 pm

Need spare rim 21” and rear mounting bracket for a ‘26 coupe. Any suggestions appreciated. My current wheels are wood spoke and the detachable rims are 4 lug. I just need the rim (with tire) as well as the Y type mount for the rear of the car. I appreciate any info and help.

Coupe & Runabout "spools" had 2 types - 3 hole & 4 hole mounting pattern - I might have one - need to verify which type.

Have a spool also, have confirmed it is a 4 hole. Please clarify “rim”. Wood wheel rim? If so, do you need the “Y” to support the rim?

Hi Lee,
Is this what you are looking for?

I believe it bolts to the other mount shown.

The Y piece comes in two sizes, for 21" and 23" rims. From the photos of the car, you need the 21" size. I have both but I do not know the difference in measurements. Just letting you know there is a difference.

Hardest part to find are the special thin nuts to hold Y on the spool.

Everyone has mentioned the 'spool' that mounts the Y to the rear trunk panel, and the Y, itself, but the poster stated that he needed a spare rim, too, and no one has offered one. The 21" rims came with two locking mechanisms. The early used a pivoting latch, rivited to the rim, and the later, used a special round headed, slotted bolt to secure the ends together. The owner would have to remove one or more rims from his wheel fellows to see which rim he needs. If he has the early rim, I may have an extra which is zinc plated as original, but I'll have to check to see if I still have it.

They will both mount up to the wheel - doesn't matter which latch it has.

Steve’s got a point, I thought there were 3 styles of locking split rims, the one with the tab & bolt, the one with the movable lock latch over the rectangular bar & the pin lock similar to a hinge connecting bolt that joins the two sides.
Could be wrong though. On 2nd thought may be another, the one where the connector is broken off and some how brought together without any locking mechanism, that’s a joke but have seen it done. Not the best idea though. Best John

Canadian rims used the "hinge & pin" type of latching arrangement.

I know both will work. I was just speaking as a 'perfectionist".
