‘26 Roadster Body Length / Width?

Post by schwabd1 » Sun Oct 27, 2024 1:35 pm

There seems to be a shortage of open trailers in my area to rent, U-Haul wants me to rent an enclosed one instead. Not counting the fenders, running boards, slash aprons, top irons or hood, what is the length and width of a ‘26 roadster body. Just the “tub” and turtle deck? The door opening on the trailers are several inches narrower than the interior width. How wide of a door do I need?

All the Model Ts are 12 foot long and 5 foot wide.

I found a lawn mower/tractor trailer with thee ramps in Pittsburg

The flat deck was 6 X 16 feet and it works fine.

Make the size 6 X 12.

I’m not near my shop right now to measure mine, but I can tell you the body easily fits inside my Econoline. The rear door opening is around 50”.

It sounds like you're transporting just the body like I had to do with my 27 Roadster after it was painted.

The body is 47" wide (no top mounting hardware installed) and is aproximately 92" long.

Mine ALMOST fit in a Nissan Vanette, but I had the top mounting studs screwed in and that was too wide.

Best of luck!

If you're transporting the turtle deck separately, it's about 42" long.

Back in 1992 I brought back to Fresno Ca from Denver Co a 1926-27 T touring body in the back of a 1987 F150 short bed pickup. I had to leave the tail gate down because of the touring rear curved tub but it fit between the wheel wells ok. I would be concerned that the U-haul closed trailer would not have a big enough door opening width to fit the 1926 roadster body through with out needing to tip the body some.

What type of tow vehicle are you using, if not a pickup ? I think that a standard two axel utility trailer will fit the 1926 roadster body ok. You don’t need a car trailer, I have hauled Model A closed car bodies in two axel utility trailers before.
