NOW SIX -- HCCT's on eBay

Post by BE_ZERO_BE » Fri Nov 29, 2024 1:49 pm

FYI - There are NOW SIX HCCT's on eBay right now.
All seem a bit expensive to me.

1 Weidenhoff - Uncommon - decent price

Are they all HCCT’s? Only the very last one (1999.99) appears to actually be an HCCT. My knowledge is somewhat limited . The others look like what they are advertised as: Buzz boxes.
Forget everything you thought you knew.

They all appear to need help with parts and meters to work. Makes the ECCT sell at a bargain price compared to what asking prices start at for these. I do believe that sellers could start asking prices at their discretion and I do appreciate that. But if I were to consider purchasing, I would be very hesitant until my wife said okay. ....... And I have had a HCCT for many years. ..... The last one offered visually is restored to a point where it could be a museum piece.

At least ten manufactures of HCCT's have been identified.

At one point these were the only viable alternative. Prices have dropped. You can buy working models for about $800 in my area.
If someone really needs one and can stop by my place you can have one for that price. Not anxious to sell just trying to help out.

If you think those prices are high, imagine what they would be if shipping to me in the UK were added!

Here is my take on fair prices for the the five HCCT's on Ebay.
I hazard to point out that I have probably owned and restored more of these than any other person on earth. I once had 65 HCCT units in my shop in various conditions from fully restored to complete wrecking projects but savable.
1. Allen Electric unit (most desirable) Restored with rebuilt ac ammeter and working. $800-$1000.
2. Allen Electric unit, Missing AC ammeter, complete spark ring apparatus missing and needs full restoration.$200-$400
3. Allen Electric unit, Meter intact , Decent condition and needs full restoration. $400-$600
4. Allen Electric This unit has obviously been dropped. Misssing broken hand crank casting & handle, flywheel quick connect nut casting broken, very hard to find twin meters badly damaged. $200 Max
5. Service Prouducts unit, Meter restored and very likely working. $600-$800.
And in each case you have to factor in shipping a 90Lb HCCT.
Good luck
Ron Patterson

For the heck of it, I did go to eBay and entered "Model T Ford coil testers... ". .. ALONG WITH THE OTHER HAND CRANK TESTERS, THERE IS AN OFFERING FOR A ECCT TESTING SET. !!

all of this makes me very grateful that:
1. I bought a Strobospark from Fun projects many years ago

and

2. The enthusiasts here went to enormous lengths to develop and document the DIY FACT device and help make it freely available

and

3. Tim Law helped me get set up with a FACT.

That first one is short of good spare parts.

The last one is the best one.

Getting anything from Canada is not the easy or haves been for me.

Living on the Canadian border made things easy in my earlier years.

Jim... You said the last one is the best one.... At that price you should buy it and have that in your mausoleum... It's only good for show.. I question if it really works.

You could always build your own. One of these days I’ll get this one finished……maybe!
