Finding the correct 1927 Touring rear fenders

Post by bmklawt » Wed Mar 16, 2022 11:40 pm

I am going this weekend to buy frame for my 1927 Touring and the guy says he may have the rear fenders for a 1927 Touring, what do I look for to make sure I get the right ones. I have fiberglass rear fenders, would original fenders look exactly the same as or very close to the fiberglass one have.

Give an old car guy a barn and he won't throw anything away.

Roadster, roadster pickup and coupe are the same. Touring and sedans are the same. 4 different fenders requiring 4 different sets of tooling. The costs become prohibitive at some point. The last time I inquired about tooling costs, I would have to sell a fender for around $1100. So only option is to run fiberglass ones until you can locate some originals.
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Fiberglass fenders might be similar but may not be identical to steel fenders. Here is how to identify a 26-27 sedan rear fender:
1. Rear fenders have a similar crown shape as the front fenders have.
2. Sedan fenders have an uneven inner edge to follow the rear body shape.
3. Sedan rear fenders have a triangular shield at the inside rear of the fender to fill the gap where the fender sticks out past the lower body.

I have several sets of original 26-27 touring rear fenders available. They range from repairable to NOS condition. None are junk. If interested contact jputnam(at)wcoil.com

No. Pre-1926, 1926 and ‘27 fenders have the rounded ends. Not flat like those.

Its hard for my eyes, to tell whether the black ones at the top, are or aren't, because of the side view. A clear end view would definitely confirm. The ones at the bottom (fore ground) definitely are pre-26
