Trailer rear view camera?

I love my enclosed trailer for hauling my cars. However, towing a trailer is like pulling a great big box and I can't see anything behind me!

I would love to get a wireless "back up" camera to be able to see behind while backing up and as a rear view "mirror."

My thought was to wire the camera to the license plate light, mounted up high, so when the running lights are on I can see what's behind me.

I see a bunch of them available on Amazon in the $60-$125 range.

I am looking for specific brand recommendations from anyone who may have this type of set up.

I have mine hooked into my in dash rear view monitor. I got camera off Amazon. Installed some led backup lights.
I only use mine only for backup. It is an easy install. Just be sure to use a shielded cable on the trailer. Dan

Little more information on mine,
2015 F250 Super Duty. I got a tail gate camera wiring harness from Ford. Wired it to trailer camera, mounted camera in center up high above rear door. I unplug gate camera and plug in trailer camera. (New trucks come with a extra camera plug by hitch)
Works like a charm. Even has the yellow lines on screen like factory cameras.
Got one on my enclosed trailer and big 5th wheel toy hauler.
I wouldn’t leave home without it.

I use a "Rider-Mon-back" system.....

Whoever rides with me gets out and stands by the back of the trailer and says, "Mon back...Mon back...Whoa!"

Mounting to your existing license plate location will present some visual issues. I think its best to have the camera mounted in the center line of the trailer to avoid an offset image. Also the location may be subject to ground clearance.

There are camera's intended for use on trailer versus cars. I noticed that they have antennas, likely because of distance and blockage of trailer Not sure what you/others have mounted on a trailer (not a car). In searching I did see one that had a metal plate to attach to the rear of the trailer and the camera could then be attached to use and then removed to prevent theft

One thing you might consider whatever you do is a backup camera filter - put it between the voltage source and the camera - it removes "noise" from the DC to improve the picture quality.

Don't make the mistake of going too cheap- spend a little more to get a good image. Mine is mounted in the center of the rear bulkhead.

I plan to mount it at the top center, just above the door. I could use the power from the license plate light located above the door. The license plate is on the door.

I do not have one but was interested in seeing what was available, have been thinking of one for my car. In looking there seems to be some more applicable for use by a car, some use the word "hitch" (may just for hooking up a trailer). The ones for RV's seem to have a tilt option and an antenna (because of the distance from the receiver?). The bulk of mounting one on your ramp door leaves lots to be considered. That's why I think about a removable one. Mounting it high makes it vulnerable to hitting the ground, lower opens it up to bumping into it or theft.

This looks like a good rear view mirror, but how does this help backing up into a parking space? Can't see the end of the trailer.

I bought a 4 wireless camera system. I mounted 2 of the cameras above the bulkhead left and right side. That way gives me a spare live camera and two spares for later use. The monitor is mounted in the tray of my console, and the cameras are wired into the trailers power source. The cameras run all the time when we pull the trailer. That way they can be used not only for backup but to see what is behind you at all times. Makes passing very easy. Also I can see where the end of the trailer is at. With these cameras and my parabolic and flat mirrors, I have no blind spots. Don't even need to turn around to look.
