26/27 Spare Wire Wheel Locking

Post by Duckwing » Tue Aug 11, 2020 1:08 am

Can someone post photos of how to lock a 26/27 spare wire wheel using the locking lug nut that comes with a lug nut set.

I have the lug on the bottom and I attach a master lock through the lug and around the spoke. I have also taped the lock with electricians tape to protect the paint on the spoke. It works so far.

As the previous post shows, secure the locking nut to the closest spoke. A padlock with an extended hasp will give you more chance to catch a spoke. Some padlocks are available with a rubber or plastic coating on the body and the hasp which will protect paint from chipping.

Be creative. You might find a way to do it. This is only my example.

The ford lock probably only works on the demountable rims in the Y shaped carrier. If youhave wire wheels you could trade the wheels and hubs to someone whohas wood wheels, and thenget the Y carrier and Ford lock to work.

Ford Service Bulletin describes the way for the double hole locking lug nut on the demountable rim, and the single hole locking lug nut on the wire wheel.

Or fancy aftermarket lock and chain. Most times you want to lock the tire with a chain back then, as the tire was worth more than the rim :o

I just used a padlock with a longer shaft so it goes around a spoke. Like Dan showed, if you just hang a padlock on the nut it does not look like you can turn the nut. Give it a try and let us know.
