Best Way To Display Used Tranny Drums...

...for sale. I’m disassembling Model T transmissions primarily to salvage reusable drums to sell. It’s surprising how many are cracked - they go into the scrap pile. I’ve begun to ospho a few drums after beadblasting then neutralize with Arm & Hammer with water. Then I began to wonder if that’s the best way to preserve them for others to use. Cover with oil and place in sandwich bags ? What think you ?

Not sure why you rinse them with baking soda, The glass beads present no issue. Gibbs Brand is a great product to keep them from rusting after clean up.

I also use Gibbs or 140w oil to coat my parts. Then I put them into zip lock bags. Last I use a 3 x 5 card with the name of the item and the specifications of the part so I do not have to measure it again to see if it is a good part. If you do this procedure, the part is protected and ready for use if you need it.

Be aware that cracked drums might have good gears attached and those should not go in the scrap bin.

Very good Steven and Dan...I will NOT throw good T parts away so I’ll now separate the gears from the cracked drums. Thanks for the idea ! And from now on it’ll be oil in a gallon ziplock bag instead of ospho. Another great idea.. thanks !
