In 1929, my dad was a student at Washington University in St. Louis and was in the ROTC unit. He and three of his friends went to Camp Knox in Kentucky for their ROTC Summer Camp. They pooled their money and bought a 1920 Model T, which they modified to carry them and their baggage. These pictures went into an album when they got back, and I still have it. To Kentucky in a Model T - 1929
I knew I had posted these photos here before, but couldn't remember when. Thanks to Google, I found that I posted them in 2011 and again in April 2016. Since there are new people who have joined the forum in the last 4-1/2 years, I thought I'd post them again.

In the above pictures, "Jake" was Bob Jacobsmeyer. Eight years later, he was best man at my parents' wedding.
When I went into the Air Force as a second lieutenant in 1963, I looked like I was about 15 years old. Looking at my dad in the last picture, it's not hard to see where I got that....

Basic Training in 1929 with WW I Truck transport.
....Yikes, those barracks look like my basic training “accommodations” at Camp Forsyth in 1970. At least we had Korean War era transport .....What a wonderful Model T adventure - with Babbitt thrust washers and no disc brakes no doubt.

John, my dad was Richard Lloyd Lodge and I am Richard William Lodge. (His dad was William Lloyd Lodge. We tend to recycle names.) And that big truck....wow. I spent many, many hours on the back of a duece and a half, but that was a modern one with pnuematic tires. I can imagine how rough the ride was on that beast with the solid rubber tires!
