Stop light

Post by Russ T Fender » Mon Feb 08, 2021 4:27 pm

I have a victor accessory stop light that I thought would fit over a stock T tail light but the tail light on my '22 Centerdoor is too big. The inside diameter of the stop light accessory is 2-3/4". Is there a smaller T tail light that would fit?

I suspect it was made for the 1924 to '27 tail light although I don't have one handy to measure.

I have two of those lights. One is on my '26 Touring, the other one is in my showcase in the garage. Both have the red upper lens with the word "STOP" embossed into the inside of the lens.

They were made to easily mount to a standard Ford taillight bracket that uses the clear teacup lens with the transparent red disc. By simply removing the teacup, red lens, and the stamped steel housing by squeezing the retaining ring, just place the round red lens and clear teacup into the lower portion of the light above. The Victor stoplight can then be placed back on the stock taillight bracket and the stock retaining ring replaced to hold it on. The stock black painted teacup housing can be shelved, or given to a needy Model T associate.

A wire must then be installed to the upper stoplight which should be attached to a stoplight switch.

Probably more information than you wanted, but there you go. No additional charge.

Those were made to fit the rear lights used in the final years of Model T production.

Thanks for the information your description clears things up. I will track down a later tail light to use.

The later cup mounts to the license plate bracket, it's not stand alone. The bracket is made to retain the snap ring the hold the cup in place.
