Luray treasure old sol lamp

Post by hokies_86 » Wed Jun 30, 2021 6:21 pm

Thanks to all the vendors and organizers at Luray this year - what a great event and I spent too much $ (you're welcome). Shhh don't get too big. Anyway, I picked up this old sol lamp but could not figure out how to break it down to clean and restore it. Finally prying it enough - gently - i was able to get the switch plunger out, and realized the plastic knobs unscrewed, which i did not expect. So i took exploded view pics for future reference and posted them here. Fresh wiring and tests on my ford 2n tractor - the original bulb even works! Fun little project for these hot days. Will mount on the 22 touring eventually to go spotting deer here in Pennsylvania.

Be careful. Around here it is illegal to spot deer even if you don't have a gun. Can your T outrun the Game Warden/Conservation Officer?

Thanks for the pics. I too have one or two of these someplace and had hopes of making a working one out of them.

What a coincidence!

I just took mine apart this morning. Sadly, the switch is beyond repair, so I'm going to have to figure something out.

Open to ideas . . .

I bought a light similar to those a couple years ago but it did not come with the glass. Anyone have a six inch domed glass for it? Frank.

Have heard, clock shops/restorers have all different sizes.

Dad and I have them on both of our Ts... you can't beat the adjustable rear view mirror on them. So very useful. His works, mine, shown here, does not yet.

worst case i was planning on wiring it direct with a new bulb & socket, plug on the end, or put a switch in line with the cord....but got lucky getting it apart.
