Vaporizer Carb rebuild and or how to operate (car will not start!!)
Can anyone point me to
1. Someone who rebuild vaporizer carbs or
2. Has any links on how to adjust and clean them
3. Any resource literature
I have a 1927 that the owner did start and drive up on my car trailers. I AM DOING something really wrong as I can not get it to start
I called Snyder's they do not do rebuilds
It just seems like it is not getting fuel
I changed the coils, and plugs I get good spark When I put a few drops of gas in the cylinder it fires for 2 strokes. I did check fuel to the carb
I know how to clean and rebuild NH's but these are a real puzzle I also understand it it somewhat difficult to hook up an NH Really like to get this running before the grandkids get here in 2 weeks !
Feel free to call me Dave in Indiana 574 323 5709 or dakriegel@yahoo.com

Did you confirm the needle &seat are opening? Might be sticking like a gross jet. Easy enough to remove the bowl & look. When you remove the bowl, look @ the needle. Did it drop? Not real familiar with a vaporizer, but when you choke it, does it slober out extra fuel?

The vaporizer requires generous use of the choke as the fuel has to be sucked up a long distance compared to the NH carb. If the previous owner started it and drove it on the trailer, the carb is fine.

Yeah, choke the hell out of it. If it has compression, spark and vaporized fuel, it should start. After the grandkids had their rides, remove those 4 bolts from the outside intake manifold and inspect the sheet metal plate between it and the interior intake manifold. Sometimes it’ll burn and/or rust real bad allowing air leaks causing hard starting.

Be sure the gas is turned on first, there is a lever on top of the firewall filter that turns the gas on and off. Do choke it, when it starts and smooths out leave the needle where it runs best. You adjust it by turning the choke rod. The vap will give you good service.

check your drain plug that hold on the fuel bowl. It should not have a hole in the top like earlier carbs. If it has a hole it will try to start but will just fire and quit. I fussed for a week until Russ Potter straightened me out.

WOW Thank you all for the advice. I spoke to Mr Potter who rebuilds these carbs and is an expert. ( Yes he sold a new one a month ago oh well) I am going to first confirm fuel flow to the carb
Then figure out the choke mechanism
Choke as you say the poop out of it maybe 3 seconds of cranking with the ignition OFF and choke pulled open
The advice of removing bowl sediment crap etc is good checking the float needle
Last the advice on intake leaks is great
If I can get it running for the grandkids even poorly good then take it off and send it in for a superb rebuild
Seems awful complex to an NH !!!!

Sometimes the plate 6273 gets small cracks in it so the carb won't function properly

reread Jack's post
if it started and was driven onto the trailer, then the carburetor does not need a rebuild suddenly
It may benefit from it, but a shot carb is not today's problem and I doubt seriously that being new at this, that the carb is the problem
welcome to the hobby and good luck...you'll get it, but resist the urge to start removing everything and looking to repair things

There are two discussions on this same topic, Perhaps they could be merged.
