Early two piece timers

Hi all,
I’ve just read in the classifieds about the availability of covers for the two piece timers
How many of you still use this style from the real early models and have you modified them in any way? Are they reliable
and what advantages/ disadvantages are there.
I remember Warwick in Melbourne was experimenting with upgrades many years ago for a 1909
