4 CYL CHWVY ENGINE,
NOT SURE OF ITS YEAR- IM LOOKING AT IT THROUGH PICTURES, I KNOW IT A CHEVROLET BECAUSE WE HAD A DOODLBUG WITH 27 CHEV, ENGINE IN IT, THIS ENGINE IS THE SAME TYPE, I'M THINKING OF THE HEAD, I UNDERSTAND FOLKS USE THEM TO MAKE A OVER HEAD VALVE SYSTEM'S ON THE MODEL T.WITH THE CHEVY HEAD, WOULD IT BE WORTH MY WHILE TO GO AFTER THIS ENGINE, ALSO IS THE CRANK A USEFUL ITEM TOO, THE BLOCK I'M SURE I COULD FIND IT A HOME, I WOULD LIKE TO SAVE AS MUCH OF THIS OLD STUFF AS ITS BECOMING SCARCE, I SHED A TEAR WHEN I HEAR OH I SCRAPED IT--BOTTOM T SETTING AT DON LANGS--MIDDLE IS TRAGUTHA AS FOUND--TOP IN HER NEW DRESS, DONTCHA JUST LOVE THEM T''S.THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE--

Something about "The roar of a Chevy four" comes to my mind. Sorry 'bout that guys.
Yep, with some doing and a plate the Chevy four head can give overhead valve to a T. Pun not intended.

Have three of those engines and all have bent cranks. TOUGH cranks.
To save myself, took the '18 Runabout out for a bit tonight.

If one is inclined to use the Chev head, the 1928 twin exhaust port is the one.

I believe that it was a gentleman by the name of Neil Jern that used to manufacture the kit to adapt a Chevrolet 4 cyl. head to a 4 cyl. Model T block. He used to sell those at the Bakersfield meet every year. He called it the "Jern Thunderbolt".
Unfortunately, I believe Mr. Jern has passed away and no one has taken up the business.

Good guy friend of mine back in CA. The adapter plate can be made out of alumin or steel. The nice thing about it is can be made in different thicknesses to adjust combustion ratio. Slightly more desirable is the 3 port olds head.

thank you all, this engine is a bout 150 mile up the road from me, i just had a feeling it might be worth getting, it will be a nice trip through the Vermont hill's, boy Hank that engine is candy to the eye, what does that do to where the rubber meets the road, think of that improvement, and what did it do to the horse power, years ago i fooled around with a 8BA engine by installing a merc crank, quite a project, but what a improvement, between that and shaving the heads and 3/4 cam i could hardly keep the 40 club coup headed between the guard rails, ah those were the days my friend, i admire those that can look at something and see how to change a thing or to using parts already made, stitch them together and make them work, i never would have thought of in stalling that crank, the shop foreman where i worked ALBERT HARRINGTON] SMART COOKIE, he see i had the engine torn down to replace things that were getting worn, this was 1955, i got married and that was not a family car, sold it to a buddy, years later I'm told that engine was working at a ski tow, the coup is still around i see it every now and then it is now yellow and has a caddy engine--that poor thing--i beat it when i had it to think its still kicking after all this time, why not tell the whole story, i found the coup on a back road setting in the weeds, gave a few bucks for it, dad helped me tow it home this was around 1953, it had a 60 horse engine, that was bad, being numb as as pounded thumb at that age on the workings of cars i set about to put a motor out of a junked 41 in, well the first run i found the transmission and rear end were set up for that 60, i could take off in hi gear and top sped was about 45 mph,so back to the 41, by this time wrenching became second nature,to kinda help keep it headed in a strait line brother john an i poured quit a charge of [seement] in the trunk, this helped with keeping the rubber on the road but the brakes did not like it at all.I pulled the pin on the shift linkage, this put the shifter on the left side-- this would let you come straight down from first to second--this way you could keep your right hand on the wheel when trying to hold onto a zig zagging ford headed in the right direction, next time i see Ed i'm going ask if that weight is still in there, alltho knowing him i bet there is disc brakes on it now, I thank that 40 ford club coup for teaching me how to use my hands that gave to me a life time of enjoyment and many friends.

For those wanting pictures of a three port Olds head. They do produce just a little more but not what you would think. To get extra you must do a fly off of the rocker bosses and install a new plate with different ratio rocker arms. Now you have wheel barking power!

Aren't the Olds heads very few and far between to find and when you do they are usually cracked beyond repair ?

Not sure of rarity of the Olds head or cracks but I have a 3 port Chevy head and was told it was the same as an Olds head but with a bowtie casting mark, I’ve never had it sitting next to an Olds head so I can’t verify if they’re the same. The 1922 Chevy Master Parts Price List show the 3 port head in it. Not sure if the 3 port was offered in other years besides “22”.
Years ago I did see a Chevy engine in a Model T. It had the T trans with hogs head, so I know at least one person has done it. Don’t remember how it was mounted in the T oil pan.

I am very sure that the Chevrolet "T" was the truck, so wonder if in 1922 they tried that head to get a little more out of the engine, and the FB was a larger car, the follow-up to the to V8; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Series_FB So not as common as the 490.
Henry, anything you build is going to have "wheel barking power"!

its truly astonishing the amount of early information that's still out there, each faze of automotive advancement through the years is someones favorite subject, and every one is thirsting to gather all one can to to further there knowledge on this subject- there is something about being able to take a object that was made one way take it apart add other parts to it and make it do its job in a better way, i look at those [in my eyes] beautiful engines that has taken many hours and thought to perfection, we that love this hobby look at each others work and understand what it took to achieve our goal, thank you all, to be able to set in my chair hit some buttons and see what others are doing in this hobby and to be able to talk with those people through this wonderful model t forum is truly a treat. the one engine i
improved was a 1910 REO, this four banger is a crude little thing, between the top of the piston and the head there was room to set up house keeping, so while i had it apart i had Jans build me a set of jugs changing the C-D[ compression distance] of the wrist pin giving it much higher compression, wow that woke this little tiger up good--then i found after a speed run when some joker did what truckers call a brake test in front of me and with some quick flailing, i was able to avoid what would have been a very bad wreck, this REO- had two wheel brakes,and not very effective at best--with both feet on that pedal there was no black marks on the road,it was all done with the steering wheel--and thank bozza- there was a exit to right with nothing in the way in to the field, i have a video of this engine work my friend wally took of the rebuild,its on a v-c-r- and when i can figure out how to take get some interesting parts to show ,i will. thank you all for sharing you information and work,s very enjoyable..
