Survived another Chickasha trip (with pictures)

Post by dobro1956 » Sun Mar 17, 2019 8:16 pm

Finally made it back from Chickasha. We had a good time as usual. The weather was "brisk" and "breezy" most of the time, but we survived. We did very well this year, both buying and selling. This year I only bought 4.00 more than I sold... :) Hated to hear the news of next year being the last year, but we will be there in full force next year and try to "go out in style" So, everyone please plan on joining us next year, and lets make it a thing to remember. My favorite find this year is a "Old Sol" spotlight with the smallest "violet ray" lens I have ever seen. It matches the "violet ray" headlight lens on the speedster project, so the spotlight is destined for the speedster project. All the gas headlight parts are for the 1914 speedster that showed up at our house last fall. The unrestored headlight buckets were a pre swap meet buy delivered to the meet. Everything else was bought there. Lots of early stuff this year, and there were some really good prices. Here are some of the pictures I took, I broke my camera so I did not get as many as usual at the meet. The last bunch of pictures are my treasures I found this year

The following are pics of some of my treasures found at the swap meet. There is no particular order to the pictures as this thing puts them in the order that it wants, not the order I want ....

The rusty front axle and spring was my last buy of the swap meet. It has a "Long-Leaf" brand front spring and mounting brackets. Since my 1914 speedster has a "Long-Leaf" brand front spring on it, I decided buying a "spare" for "just in case", might be a good thing to do. They are "scarce as hens teeth" and since the whole thing only cost 25.00, how could I resist. The four wheels that were marked 35.00 for the set, My friend bought them for me for 25.00. That 6.25 per wheel. The spokes are good enough to use. They have very little check cracks and the tenons are perfect ... There were lots of tables or tarps that were a dollar per item or 5.00 per item on the tarp or table. A lot of my items came off those tarps or tables ... Its only 362 days till next year ... I can't wait till it gets here again .....

That Violet-ray spot light is so cool. I have those lenses on my Tudor and a set on the shelf for my speedster.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting. Some really good deals for you there! Have seen a few pictures of that nice black 1915 Touring. How much for that one? Also a couple of OHV set ups in your pictures. Seems to be a few of them around at the moment.

Why is that the second to last swapmeet? Was it not popular enough or was it being forced out?

Donnie, That is an interesting Long Spring mounting that I have not seen before. The ones I have seen have a heavy metal bracket that bolts to the radius arm hole and curves upward against the C of the axle.

So that style has you cutting off the top of the axle C ? How does the newer top piece attach? Very cool accessory.

Warwick,.... That 1915 touring with the wire wheels belongs to our friend Royce Petersen. He and another friend brought their ‘15 tourings for show and “swap meet ambience”. They weren’t for sale.

Donnie-Thanks for the pics and your participation and Chickasha exhuberence.

Chad, Im not sure if you have to rework the top of the axle or if the spring came with a longer set of spindle bolts. On the setup I just bought, the nuts do not have a full nut engagement. But on the setup on my car, the nuts have full engagement and cotter keys. Ill have to do some checking to see how they were "meant to mount"

Bud, I had to be careful that the trailer did not go into a "high speed wobble" In a high traffic situation there could be a bad day ... :)

M. A. The swap meet was a very popular meet for over 30 years. When I heard the rumors of the swap meet ending I went straight to Susie Ersland and asked her. She said that they had been doing the swap meet for over 30 years and that they were just getting tired. With dwindling vendor count and costs, they just decided that next year will be the last. She hopes that everyone will show up and bring their stuff for a "last chance event" to buy and get rid of. I agree and hope that it will be an "event to remember" and we can all go out in style. I have been a vender there for about 30 years. I remember going to the meet when the dad Joe Ersland was running the meet. I guess that means Im getting old, but, god willing, I will be there next year even if Im the only vendor .....

...even if I'm the only vendor.

No, you won't be. I have more junk to get rid of. :D

Here's the accessory long spring setup on my 1926 project. It clamps on with no alteration to the axle.

Steve, I like your setup better than mine. I think my setup came with longer king pin bolts. So no modification to the axle should be needed on my setup either .. Now it may become a problem when I need new king pin bolts ...

If only the bearing surface was worn, try nickle plating & ground to size.
