Dodge a Chevy with a Ford !

Post by Ruxstel24 » Sat Aug 21, 2021 4:59 pm

Started out as a nice trip with my wife....
Little hotdog stand at the corner drive thru on my road was closing up. Guy said I got 2 brats left $1 each since you’re driving that car !
Got gas in the car and drove through the park and looked at the lake.
Coming home, I see an S-10 backing out a driveway in front of me to the right. I’m going 30mph maybe. As soon as I see it, my motorcycle instincts kick in and I said to myself, he’s not gonna stop !! Sure enough, he did not !! :o
And I was right there, I couldn’t have stopped my modern car, MC or especially a Model T to save my a$$. I swerved into the left lane at the last second and just missed him hitting my running board !! The words that came out my mouth you can imagine.

Be careful out there !

Glad to hear you are ok. Years of motorcycle driving habbits has saved me in the T and the modern more than once.

My last car show I was riding in a 1905 Columbia. Now the bottom of the seats are at least 5 feet above the ground. This is not a small car. At one intersection the driver applied the brakes and the car slowly rolled almost to the middle of the intersection before it stopped. Car coming down the road did not even slow down. I do not know how she missed us. Car is painted in John Deere colors.

It was scary, had I slowed at all, timing would have probably been bad. I just held course and steered around trying to not oversteer. I don’t think there was 12” between us.
Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic.

There are people out there who will drive straight into the side of a freight train that is moving at 70 mph. There are people out there who will drive straight into the rear end of a police cruiser parked on the shoulder with all lights blazing, or into a semi truck. There are a lot of people out there who will hit just about anything the least bit out of the ordinary, or anything else, for that matter, quick or dead, large or small. It's not uncommon to read of head on collisions on lightly traveled, rural highways in good condition in good weather in nearly flat country. Modern beetlecars may be safer in a collision than earlier ones, but that may very well make the drivers less aware of the hazards of the road. Car crashes are deadly dangerous, no matter what you are driving. Driving is a life and death business.

I forgot to mention, before the person backed out in front of me. I was following some idiot that was going 25 in a 35 and suddenly she just slammed on the brakes and almost completely stopped for a tiny little squirrel that ran out !!

I believe that it was the great Phil Hill who said: "If you see an accident looming ahead, nine times out of ten accelerate. The tenth time pray."

Remember, fully one half of the drivers on the road are worse than average.
