phpBB Forum options question - "Mark Read"

Post by Bob Solak » Thu Jan 10, 2019 9:46 am

Chris,

I'm sure you've got a ton on your plate getting this thing up and running. Here's one for the nice-to-have list.

Does phpBB have an option for a button or checkbox or some way to mark a topic as "read" without having to go into it. I know that when I log on, my eyes go straight to the topics with the color red icons because that means they have new posts in them. But there may be some that I'm not interested in even opening up (e.g. OT posts). And I'd like to be able to click a button and turn the icon from red to black without having to go to the actual topic thread. That way when I scan through icons quickly I know when I'm "done" for that forum visit.

Another option would be an "ingore topic" option. So that if I'm not interested in reading a post about Chickasha, I can "ignore" the topic and it will never be turned red on the main page even if there are new posts in the topic.

Look just above the topics. There is a phrase "mark topics read" Click on the that text. That will mark all topics as read.

Yes, I saw that. I was more interested in changing color on just a particular topic.
Thinking through it more, the "ignore topic" option would probably be more helpful. That way if a topic about, say, which grade oil is best is no longer worth reading, you could hit "ignore topic" and then it will be black instead of red next time you log in and your eyes can scan right past it.

Don't know how complicated it would be to implement that, but I would like it also.

Bob,
you do have a valid point about wanting to ignore certain topics...oil, water pump desirability, etc. However, one of the fascinating (and sometimes humorous) happenings on the old Forum was how a thread "evolved" from the printed topic to subsequent posts. Often humorous...sometimes not, but oftentimes a point is discussed that is quite interesting.

Just an observation from cold, snowless (at the moment) Southern N H.
