I would think these coupons are from around the same time period that we were helping Grandma lick green stamps.

Interesting ! Both look like tickets, especially the one with the serial number. My guess is they were given out at point of purchase, the idea being to encourage repeat business; the customer would save them up, then conceivably present them at some point for a "substantial" cash discount, ten cents ? Twenty-five cents or more ?
Generational, I guess - I helped my mom paste green stamps in those little books, circa 1957.

Our Local Supermarkets give 4c / Litre off Fuel on purchases over $50. (And yes, I use them!)
