A friend of mine's father-in-law has recently purchased a 1924 Model T. He reached out to me with basic questions, and I thought it best to try to get him in touch with someone near him, by Ft Dodge IA. He told me he had the coils rebuilt by someone in Massachusetts. He said his 24 ran when parked some time ago. He also says the coils buzz, but I doubt he knows if they are buzzing in the car. He was afraid to try turning the car over by hand (kickback), but I told him to take the plugs out and ground them to the block, put both "ears" up, and see if the coils and plugs are firing when he turns it. I also told him to take the mag post wire off to make sure he doesn't accidentally discharge his mag (if it is working).
If anyone is near Ft. Dodge, and would like this gentleman out, either by phone or possibly at some point in person, please send me a pm.
Thanks,
Rob

Hello Rob:
It may of been Ron Patterson that rebuilt the coils as he used to live in MA.
i would tell your friend in Fort Dodge to look for Model T club out there.

Kohnke in Clare Iowa is 21 min / 14 miles from Ft Dodge - call them. Other clubs too far away. Likely they can check the coils for buzz
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Thanks for the responses. For all I know, this T may be ready to go with just a good checkup. The new owner said the coils buzz when he tests them from the battery. He couldn't hear them buzz when turning the car over with the starter, but I suspect that may be because he can't hear them due to the sound of the starter. He also wasn't aware that the switch should be put to "bat" first, so he may have been trying to start on magneto.
There's a lot I don't know, and obviously this new owner could use someone on the ground to walk through what to check and do prior to reviving this T.
I told him to call me when he's working on the car and I'll try to walk him through a few things like checking for spart with plugs out, etc etc.
