Designed and machined for our own use. As a stealthy alternative to a fat-man wheel.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
No horn button connection, but I suppose there could be. My '26 T has the horn button on the stalk, so not necessary in my case.

Hi Steve,
Do not wish this to be negative in anyway, great idea but quick release steering wheels on public road vehicles have been banned for years. For racing use only.
Sorry, had to post due to liability issues,
Hank

The use of throttles and free wheeling have been banned in most states, so be careful.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
The up side is it dosnt seem to move the wheel adversely closer to the driver like the FatMan adapter does. I will be willing to bet the removable steering wheel laws would apply equally to a FatMan steering wheels in the term of quick release.
With the defund the police movement pushing officers to retire early & some to leave the service out right causing officer shortages I don't think they will be setting up removable steering wheel check points any time soon. But you may want to check with your insurance company to be on the safe side.
Craig.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
Quite right! I designed this specifically to Not move the wheel closer to the driver; it's very close already. I also wanted something that used the original steering wheel unaltered, and was stealthy and hardly noticeable.Craig Leach wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 9:32 pmit dosnt seem to move the wheel adversely closer to the driver like the FatMan adapter does.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
Could you add a "safety pin" in the collar to prevent the accidental removal of the wheel. I think that might change its definition ever so slightly from "quick release" to "easily removable" How is the release collar connected to the steering shaft?Flivver wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:13 pmQuite right! The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
Impressive design and machining work. But a removable steering wheel... what could possibly go wrong?

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
When the police pull you over, just ask them . . . "Wanna race?" ...problem solved.
But, yes, a removeable safety pin on a small chain to "lock" this unit into place would be a nice safety feature. It's not like everything else on our T's are held in place with cotter pins.

Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?

Sometimes, they don't.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
Having raced modern dirt cars with removable steering wheels you should always pull up on the wheel to check that it is locked on steering shaft before driving. Also if you use a open car trailer or park car unattended remember to remove the steering wheel or a thief may do that for you. One comment I have is that the racing removable steering wheels have a spline, or flat sides, to interface between the steering wheel hub and the steering shaft to take the steering load. Even a stock Model T steering wheel can inavertaly become a removable wheel if the set screw is accidentally omitted and the cover comes unscrewed, make sure to check for a set screw.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
In 1998 I built a sports car with a ramovable steering wheel because you did not get in the car you put it on. The car has changed hands many times and last I talked to a owner the steering wheel was never a problem. You do get a real big reaction from a unhappy passanger when your say if you dont like the way i drive you do it and hand them the steering wheel! I have thought of it many times but I'm not as creative as some. My hat is off to Steve.

Re: Removable Steering Wheel
I worry less about a steering wheel coming off than I do about self driving/steering cars that are all over the television ads. Those need to be banned, in my opinion. Some owners won't pay attention to the road. I've seen news footage of people sleeping on the freeway and one moron standing through his sunroof while his car does the driving. He has the right to die but not the right to risk the lives of others.
