Long shot...

Post by Oldav8tor » Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:56 pm

I'm finally working on my Model T again, hobbling around with my cane and walker or riding my amigo. Today I dragged out the box containing the top that came with my '17 touring, which had been unopened until I opened it last fall. The postmark is 1988, so it has been boxed for a long time. Surprisingly it is in great shape (or at least appears to be.

I know almost nothing of the history of my car, but found a name on the mailing label of the box, one Arthur Tapert, who lived on Gladwin in Detroit. Is there possibly anyone left who knew Arthur and perhaps remembers his 1917 Touring? Hey, I said it was a long shot ;)

If it’s the Arthur F. Tapert at 3900 Gladwin, he was born in 1896 and was 44 in the 1940 census. He probably didn’t show his car much by the time I was entering the hobby in the seventies. Arthur’s son (Junior) was born in 1919 and would be 100 if he’s still around.

Thomas,
I found the census info and went thru some obits for Arthur Sr., Jr. and other family members. I think I found one surviving grand daughter to whom I've sent a letter. We'll see where it goes. Thanks :D
