Many people have ask about where to get Stevens Front Axle work done. So I am thinking about a rental program for a Stevens Front Axle tool. Would anyone be interested in me doing this? It would be by the week after you received the tool and inserts and would also have a tool deposit. Which would be refunded after tool is returned, minus the rental and shipping.

If you decide to do the rental gig I would add "After the tool is returned in proper working condition" And I would only mail it with tracking and insurance in case it gets lost in the mail. The deposit should cover the purchase price.

Dennis makes a good point. If the deposit is set at the replacement cost of the tooling, you will be guaranteed its return, you can assess for damage and return the funds balance as indicated.
I once was asked if a buyer could use my sack truck at a swap meet. When I asked for a $100 deposit he was taken aback, but when I assured him that was only to guarantee its return, he was not at all upset.

For what it’s worth, Dan. I’ve loaned out good tools twice to people I didn’t know very well. One was a TT hub puller and the other was a driveshaft reamer, and bushing installer. Both were worthless when I FINALY got them back. I’m not going for a 3rd strike. I’d still give my left kidney to close friends, as they would to me.
It’s not the same car collectors world we both grew up in. Kinda sad, actually.

Very noble Dan and Tim, I too try to help. But (With no disrespect to anyone), My tools come back normally misused at my expense to repair or replace.

I have refused to lend my Stevens hub thread tool. If people want threads chased, I have them bring the parts to me and I do the job free. Some original tools are virtually irreplaceable, so doing the job for them keeps relations sweet on both sides.

I once loaned out my steel felloe expanding tool ( to put shims in ) to a club member. Weeks went by and I forgot about it. Years later, on a tour of his ‘man cave museum’ I spotted it. When confronted, he said “I hate it when people loan me special tools and forget to ask for their return”... so, never again

When i grew up I was Trained if you used someone's tools and damaged them, you replaced them with the same or better. I would gladly pay a deposit to be able to use a tool like that>
