Remove cylinder front cover?

Hi all,

I'm trying to get the cylinder front cover off my 1914. The manual suggests it comes off after taking out seven bolts but mine seems to hang up on the fan pulley on the crankshaft. There isn't enough play around the camshaft to get the cover off. Does that fan pulley need to come off or am I missing something here?

After taking a look at the Ford service manual it does say and show that after the 7 bolts of the cover have been removed the cover can be removed with the crankshaft pulley still in place. Paragraph 455 and fig 267. It’s been a while since I’ve removed a front cover from one on my T’s and I can’t remember if I removed one without removing the crankshaft pulley.
If you can’t it’s an oversight in the manual. But it does seem that the crankshaft pulley would need to be moved up a just a little to give the cover a little more room to come off but not taken completely off. Buts that’s my opinion without trying it.

If original pulley, then the cover should come off with out removing it. I've done early and late, a jiggle but can be done.

I was thinking that also and seems like when you turn the cover a bit it comes off and barely clears or slightly drags against the camshaft. But that’s assuming you have an original crankshaft pulley.
You may not can if the pulley is a replacement with flanges to help hold the belt on. I’m just guessing.

The cam is so tight in the cylinder cover that I can't jiggle it so off comes the pulley I guess.

If someone in the past has installed a modern oil seal in the front of the crankshaft, you will have some problems. I don't remember whether I had to pull the engine to get it off, but the seal is one piece between the timing gear cover and the crankcase. So you will need to be able to raise it enough to clear that seal and the camshaft at the same time.
