1926 - LOOKING FOR PACKAGE SHELF AND TRUCK LID LATCH

Hi there. Just purchased my first ever Model T! It is a 1926 Coupe. I am looking for a 1926 package shelf and a trunk lid latch. I know there are quite a few on line sites that sell reproduced parts, but sometimes parts are on back order for quite some time. Does anyone know where to find both parts used? Thank you....Lisa

Some parts like the package tray are not reproduced. Good used parts are found at swap meets, if you know what you are looking for and can wait to find it, that is your best resource. Langs has a lot of used inventory, unadvertised, you have to call them, and it changes often.

There was a package tray for sale in the MTFCA classifieds a few months ago that had a lot of BTTT back to the top re-postings, so that may still be available.

1926-27 package trays changed a lot, there are at least 3 different versions that I know of, all wood, half wood half sheet metal, all sheet metal with a wood front lip. I do not know if they are interchangeable. If you know what your car had that is good, if you have the remains of one that is better, if you just have a hole where it goes that could be difficult as there is no telling what you need. There are 2 different postings about covering the package tray with upholstery fabric, you can see what those look like, I think one was all wood and one was 1/2 wood 1/2 sheet metal. The all sheet metal package tray has the same or similar shape as the 1/2 and 1/2. The all wood is as it sounds, so you or someone handy with wood could make a new one from plywood, that might be the quickest and cheapest way to go, if your car will take the all wood configuration. The all metal version has some compound curves that I would not recommend to try to make from scratch, and to make without a full size pattern. The all wood is simple enough and cheap enough to do some trial and error versions to get something that works.

I believe the curved metal back with 3/4" hardwood shelf and wood front edge strip is early '26 and later ones had the all metal curved back integral with flat metal shelf with a wood front edge strip. Both are illustrated in the link. The curved back was never fabricated from wood in the improved Fords

As far as I am concerned, Don Booth is the resident forum expert on the 26-27 body, roofs, interiors etc, and adding his name to a search request usually improves the result.

There are also some good pictures of an early package tray in the Ford Service Manual fig 541, 542, 545, and 546.
