under seat sheet metal supplied on 26-27 Fords???

Post by Moxie26 » Mon Apr 04, 2022 12:33 pm

Even though the 26-27 roadster and touring's had cowl gas tanks, did they cut back and not supply the sheet metal cover formerly used on under seat gas tanks ??

Steve ....Thanks, our 26 Runabout didn't have one either,...but the bottom seat spring is damn near collapsed, not from my bottom seat. While driving my knees are higher than my bottom....more than ever in the last 25 years of ownership..... Yes I'll have to file with Ford for a warranty replacement?.. LOL

You should have a board running left-to-right near the center of your seat spring. Yours is missing. The top of the board is flush with the top of the seat frame ledge. There are mounting holes for it in the body.

There is a board there but it's not as high as the metal flange for the spring. I am considering getting a new seat cushion spring from Snyder's, and have to replace that wood cross piece. Thanks Mark for your post .

There was no under-seat sheet metal on my early '26 roaster. The lower sheet metal shown below is a replacement of what was there and had rusted out

The wood strip that runs the width of the seat in my car is not as tall as it should be but it seemed to separate two storage areas under the seat. The sheet metal in earlier cars that went under the seat spring cover the top of the gas tank and also prevented road debris, mud, rain from coming up saturating the underside of the upholstery. The 26 and 27 roadster and touring had a metal bottom seat frame. You did a nice job of cleaning everything up in your photo. Thanks

Had to look. There is about a 1 X 4 on edge. the upper edge is flush with the seat base.
It mounts to the front of the triangular cutout shown @ both sides. It supports the middle of the cushion springs.
