Installing Bumpers on a 1923 Model T
Has anyone installed bumpers on a pre-bumper Model T.
The attached photo shows the parts, which may not be Model T. Along with the Model T in need of the bumpers.
The brackets from the car, to the bumper, were not included.
Any help, would be appreciated.

Re: Installing Bumpers on a 1923 Model T
With ends like that, they are like likely A model bumpers. T bumpers did not have bolts through eyes on the end of the bars. 26-7 mounting irons should work, but will need to be finessed to fit an earlier frame. There were multiple sets of accessory bars for earlier cars.

Here is an aftermarket rear bumper produced for pre-26 T's. It is secured under the body mounts in the rear and clamps around the frame towards the front.

Re: Installing Bumpers on a 1923 Model T
Those look like 1928-'29 Model A bumpers. I believe some 1930 cars also used them. The radiator shell is 1928-'29 Model A passenger car. I suspect the Model A bumpers are wider and heavier than those made for the Model T. Mounting brackets would not fit the T frame. The Model A bumper bars would probably be adaptable to Model T mounting brackets.

What type of car is in the first picture? I have never seen anything like that before... I am new to the form however, so I am not the most experienced in identifying all of the cars.
I am assuming it is a Pickup?

That appears to be a Swiss Army car.

Re: Installing Bumpers on a 1923 Model T
The front brackets are pretty much generic whether OEM or Western Auto. They have an over -under clip that sets on the frame and then a through bolt for an existing hole in the frame to secure them in place. Frame year doesn't matter.
The backs are similar, although I have never been able to mount a full width bar pre-market rear set of bracket irons on the Fordor with the spare in place. I believe the set of brackets I have may have started as a set of individual bumperettes...and then picked ups set of bars along the way before I rescued them.

Austin, hang around here too long and you will get to see all sorts of combinations of parts from various cars to make up a road going vehicle. Yes, it is a non factory made pick-up of sorts. This one has A model wheels, and unless my eyes deceive me, the front ones are a different size to the rears, reflecting the change to 19" wheels in the later A models. The A model bumpers will not look out of place with them.

Is the T hubs for wood wheels drilled for A wheels?

Re: Installing Bumpers on a 1923 Model T
T hubs require an adapter to fit A wheels. The PCD of the A model wheels is greater than the 6 holes in a T wheel hub. The A model wheels also need to be spaced outwards.

I guess whatever works! I like that it has a little "class" but still retains the Model T look.Allan wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 7:50 pmAustin, hang around here too long and you will get to see all sorts of combinations of parts from various cars to make up a road going vehicle. I think that one may need a bit of work...
Maybe he can use the bumper for his car!
