Magneto recharge in Car
We just did an in-vehicle mag recharge in a buddy’s car using Tom Carnegie’s method as he outlined in a March 26, 2015 post. I’ve done the compass way multiple times in the past but definitely like Tom’s the most by far. The outcome was excellent. Car now hand-crank starts on mag beautifully. Thanks!

You nailed it, Scott! Posting links is a little above my pay grade. I fix stuff. Sharing a YouTube link is about as high tech as it gets. That’s why I had included the date at which it had appeared. Anyhow, that 36 volt jolt made the engine “bang” for each of the 8 quick taps of the jumper cable against the hogs head. I was impressed.

I have a 40 Volt/40 Amp Battery Charger that was originally used to charge six golf cart batteries and I restored.
I removed the switch that would turn it on for 8 hours and then turn it off and replaced it with a push button switch.
Holding the button in for 10 or 15 seconds gave a better charge that the 3 short push button zaps.
One time the connection fell off the terminal, drew a lot of sparks and popped a circuit breaker.
The compass would point north any place on the transmission cover or the pedals.
The cover was removed and tested again to show one small area that would let the compass point south below the starter area.
There is an error in most of those drawings that show the distance from the terminal post to the compass edge and that number is correct to show the distance from the terminal post to the pin the compass needle pivots on.
The other charge to the top problem that worked for me was to remove the spark plugs, put the transmission in neutral, and lift a rear wheel to remove any drag.
Then hold the button in for about 10 seconds and the engine will turn a little to aline the magnets for a good charge.
