I just want to scream!
I consider myself new to Model T's (only being involved 20 + years) and I'm always learning from those with more experience and knowledge. I have 99% of the Ford manuals and have rebuilt two cars a '22 Coupe and a '27 Touring. The Coupe was having some engine or power issues, so I decided to tear it down to find the problem. I many times will visit YouTube to watch videos to see how others approach the problem and perhaps learn tricks or short cuts.
I need to scream because several of the videos I watched were giving totally wrong advice and showing the improper way to assemble and safety wire engine and transmission parts! The only reason I can think of as to why these uninformed people post YouTube videos is that they want their 15 minutes of fame.
I guess I will scream out to newer owners is take time to learn who in the hobby is knowledgeable and who is not and don't believe everything you see on YouTube about Model T's is correct. There are several fantastic videos on YouTube from very knowledgeable builders and they are very helpful just learn who to listen to and who to ignore.
Rant over.

Re: I just want to scream!
I had the same beef with some of the MTFCA vhs tapes. But these were knowledgeable t guys? Fix a cracked brake band by welding it back together.
Epoxy a fuel valve to stop a leak & make it fixed on. Assembling a rear end backwards. Etc. Unfortunately, you have to "know" to recognize the B.S.
Here, if someone is slinging B.S. there's a half dozen guys that will make the correction.

Re: I just want to scream!
I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but even I know that you shouldn't weld a brake band! I do not think that a weld would have enough surface area to actually hold! Anyway, is there any youtube channel, set of videos, ect that the general T owner can trust?

Usually lol just means amused, not literally laughing out loud. But Pat made me really LOL. I've seen that guy on Facebook.
I agree, Mike's Model T-Tips are the real deal.

Re: I just want to scream!
I have heard good things about the Model T tips, and have run across their website and youtube channel. I have watched a few videos, and they seem to be genuine. I am glad that you all think so too!

Re: I just want to scream!
I have rebuilt transmissions in the past and sometimes it's nice to see how other do it. I just don't want someone to ruin their car.
I will not post the name of the person or video link I saw that made me cringe, but I will tell you that you do not take one piece of wire and run it through the bolts in a single pass all the way around the clutch spring plate, over the clutch spring adjustment fingers and then loosely knot the wire. He also packed the triple gear pins with white grease that will eventually hold dirt and grind the bushing and plugging the oil channel groove. I feel sorry for the person who paid this shop for their services.

Re: I just want to scream!
Relying on tried and true methods taught by seasoned experts is usually good guidance for those who prefer to DIY, but not always.... Here's a good example:
Sometimes new methods that produce great results with less effort come along but seasoned experts shun to learn or promote. Its good to see how others do a particular task and the results they achieved. I like to see others have tried the same methods with similar results to gain a consensus before adapting it myself.

Re: I just want to scream!
I want to scream too, but out of fear and not anger. I have heard horror stories of some of the new drivers in my class and upper classes going 80 mph through local towns, and hitting 100 mph on local gravel roads. A few people in my class got into a wreck (They were ok) when their vehicle overturned because they lost traction going 80 mph over a hill. I don't want to think of what would happen if a new Model T driver (or any for that matter) were to be going up a hill in low gear about as fast as a snail
when one of those darn "drivers" were to ZOOM up on your tail. Even with turn signals, lights, slow moving vehicle signs -the works- nobody would be able to see you in time, let alone stop in time to give someone a chance.
I know there are bad drivers out there, but still!

Do you have any country roads around Freeport with little or no traffic? That would be the best place to practice your T driving. You can be slammed by incompetent drivers anywhere. All you can do to reduce the odds is to be where they are less likely to be.

Yes, there are a number of gravel roads that I can go on, I guess it is just a matter of luck that you get past the crazy drivers.
