Intake manifolds all the same?

Post by Dropacent » Fri May 06, 2022 1:31 pm

Not so quick. One of the most plentiful old T parts on the planet. I can’t give them away along with a 5$ bill. I’ve gone to making wind chimes out of them. These common stock intakes range from 1 5/16 ID to 1 1/8” ID. Engine Joe gave me the big un for my latest project. Don’t pitch them before you measure them!

I have 14 cast iron intake manifolds with different numbers or letters on the front. Does anyone know if these numbers and letters correspond to any particular year? The ones I have are: 3, 4, 7, 9, D, E, G, H, M, N, O, S, V and nothing. Surely O.S. has the answer.

Hey Tim!

How about posting a picture of your manifold wind chimes?

Would love to see it!

I went through the pile I had hopping to find that holy grail, the cast iron made at the switch from aluminum to cast iron or any that looked a little different inside. So far, mine were just run of the mill average. ;)
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Tim,

What is the cast letter or number on the 1 5/16" intake manifold if it has one on it? I too have several buried in my shop.

Thanks,

Dom

I have a box full as well! Will be sure to measure them before I make a wind chime. Can we see a picture of the wind chime? Sounds like a good way to repurpose a part That I will never be able to get rid of!

Does anyone have information when the 1914 style manifold actually came out. I understand around the time the new 1914 bodies were introduced?
How long were they produced? Perhaps into the 1915 model year?

I have approximately 4 cast iron high volume intakes. They are scarce and so rewarding when you find one in a pile for 5$.

The last wind chime sold from my daughter store. I’ll get another assembled when I get a couple free minutes.
