While reverse engineering is a common practice this one is very original!
Today I bead blasted some recently acquired transmission bands with the demountable later style end piece.
Five of the ears came off easy, but no amount of beating would remove one of the ears.
Evidently someone needed the earlier version fixed ear style.
Once cleaned, it was easy to see why the ear would not come off, but the reason for the fix may never be known!

I would guess it became worn and popped out of place at an inconvenient moment. And that was the last time.
