Tie rod question

Post by Craig E. Luton » Fri Aug 19, 2022 9:33 pm

What year did Ford change the tie rod from the ball being attached to the tie rod itself to the ball being attached to the threaded adjuster that screws onto the end of the tie rod? The parts book lists the same part number form 1909 all the way through to 1927.
Thank you; Craig

The Encyclopedia states 1918 for the change.

There was later change to the detachable ball too. Early ones were not tapered like those used later. I have no idea when this change occurred.

According to the listed parts, straight shank ball was '19 - '21 then the remainder of production was the tapered shank ball.
