Ford Montier in France.
Hi there.
I would like to present you a video of the commemoration about the Ford Montier, which took place in France in the city of Richelieu.
Many of you have certainly heard of Charles Montier who transformed Ford Ts into real racing cars with which he took part in prestigious races in Europe, in particular the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Richelieu is therefore the city where he spent his childhood. It is for this reason that our mutual friend Chris Martin had planned to present his book “Charles Montier” to us.
We have grouped 4 Ford Montiers out of the 9 known in the world.
It was an unforgettable moment of sharing between enthusiasts and so we learned a lot during this conference?
Then, a commemorative plaque was placed on the wall of the city's entrance to recall the history of the Montier family and its link with motor racing.
If you are interested in the history of the Ford T, quickly order Chris' book there is a French version and an English version. https://www.amazon.com/Charles-Montier- ... qy6kjLfP9o

Re: Ford Montier in France.
Wow, what a weekend that was. Thanks to Olivier and the two Pierres everything was well organised and one helluva party. Everyone thought I was a bit crazy to fly from Australia to France for just 6 days but it was worth it. I arrived in Richelieu on the Friday afternoon and was well taken care of by a few of the locals, put up in a 500-year old hotel and wined and fed very well throughout the events.
Richleieu hosts a major vintage car rally on the first weekend in September every second year and my friends over there made all the plans to erect a commemorative plaque on the site of the old family blacksmith's forge where Charles spent his early years learning from his father and where they built a steam car that Charles drove through the town in 1895 scaring the locals. They also arranged to have four Montier-Fords attend, probably the most that had ever been seen together.
Along with Ken's perfect 1909 Tourer and a pair of Speedsters the parade through the town attracted much attention, that is me hitching a ride on Michel's red speedster at 4.43 and hanging off the side of it disappearing into the distance right at 4.52. More wild rides were to follow. I even dared to make a speech in french myself ( at 1.52 in the film) but plenty of the local Chinon wine helped me through the weekend.
I thought Pierre's suggestion that we took fifty copies of the book ( the French version ) to the event a little optimistic but I was pleasantly surprised we sold them all, probably thanks to their help promoting the Montier cause both in town on the Saturday and again later at the rally in park in the afternoon and Sunday. Had a great time with wonderful people and I will remember forever their hospitality and in some cases, their wild driving. After a couple of days as a tourist in Paris I flew home on Wednesday.
If this has stirred anyone else's interest in the Montier story the book is available now from Amazon at:

Olivier
Merci pour ce merveilleux week-end, et pour cette vidéo et j'espère que mon discours en français n'était pas trop mauvais et que vous pourriez me comprendre.

Re: Ford Montier in France.
Just to clarify, the book is published by Amazon in either French or English.
The link Olivier posted shows the French version, sub-titled 'Sorcier de la Ford T' but the English version is sub-titled 'and his French Racing Fords' which is at the link I posted.
Make sure you order the right one folks.

Re: Ford Montier in France.
Olivier CHABANNE, Thanks for posting this, I have read about Montier before and learned about some of his racing activities. Nice to view a couple of his OHV cylinder heads in action.
Anyone can learn more about his exploits and see photos of some of his cars @ https://ford-histoire.jimdofree.com/charles-montier/
