How long were replacement blocks made?

Post by Steve Jelf » Mon Oct 31, 2022 11:49 am

We know that the last Model T engines were made in August, 1941. But what about replacement blocks? Were the last blocks made then,or earlier, or later? I don't recall ever seeing any information on that.

No, they were complete engines, serial numbers 15,176,882 through 15,176,888. Replacement blocks were not numbered.

Here is a 1926 Western Auto car parts catalog. They had lots of T parts including T blocks. The question would be are they “genuine Ford parts” or aftermarket. Maybe they had a deal with Ford to sell their parts? Any answers?
I’ve read and heard Western Auto had engine blocks but who made them.

If the replacement blocks were not numbered, and just considered a service part, There may be no record of how many were produced or when the last of them were made. Darryl

I’ve thought somthing similar. Most probably the larger Ford dealerships had replacement blocks that didn’t get sold along with other Ford parts at the end of 1927 and on. The replacement blocks weren’t numbered. Same goes for Western Auto and other large non-Ford parts houses. I’m just guessing but it’s probably close to correct. 🤔

What about Canada, did they make replacement blocks? And how long for?

In 1949 I bought a new block from a Ford dealer and used it in a 1925 T.

This is one of my blocks, it has a high serial number. Was it made in 1931? It shows 5 31 E.

From what I see in the Encyclopedia I think the Canadian number 748553 would be July or August 1927. Most Canadian numbers begin with C, but some have the SC or HC prefix, and some have no letter at all. The E means 1927, so apparently the block was cast at the end of May and assembled as an engine in July, or Maybe August. I don't know if Canadian engine production continued after 1927, as it did in Detroit.
