Bosch magneto mount possible recasting
I have had patterns made of this mount setup wondering if there would be any interest in recasting them?
This fits a T block that has no generator only.
I also make a distributor that replaces the mag.

Re: Bosch magneto mount possible recasting
Looks like the points might be under the rear cover and on the input shaft? How would that work with the points turning crank speed? A four lobe cam would need to run cam speed.
Just wondering.
There was a similar unit available about 25 years ago for replacing magnetos with battery ignition. This unit looks similar.

You want the patterns and tooling for the timing cover to go with it…? Can use the ‘19-‘20 genny block off plate on later blocks too, see pic above^^^^^

It's the gearing that is a hang up

The real trick would be to make double distributors to allow people with twin plug heads to run all 8 plugs.

I also make this unit in a dual fire for 4 cylinder engines, and yes this is the same unit that has been made for 25 years. The original guy that built these passed away about 7 years ago.

Dan
I gear these to run at cam speed. Also depends on if it's a 4cyl or 6cyl.

Here is a picture of the dual fire 4 cylinder set up. The timer plate is adjustable for timing.

Re: Bosch magneto mount possible recasting
RE the front plate Bosch setup. As I recall from when I had one: you would need to find the timing cover that came with the setup or an early Ford one with the short oil filler funnel. Many of the non-generator timing covers had a longer oil filler funnel and would not work with the Bosch front cover castings.
Also, the side cover casting used to convert the generator type engine to non type would be a great item, both for this use and anyone wanting to setup their engine without a generator. While that item is out there, they are far in between and getting up there in price.

Re: Bosch magneto mount possible recasting
Mark- Kevin has reproduced the early timing cover that was supplied with the 3 gear Bosch mag drive- scroll up a few postings, he posted a picture of his new covers. Many folks don't realize the three gear mag drive required a special non- Ford front timing cover until they try to mount one on an engine.

Re: Bosch magneto mount possible recasting
The only Ford produced cover that could work with these mag drives is the late ‘12 - early ‘13 with the short filler spout as Mark stated above. Most of the original mag drives have been ground out in attempt to clear the much more common later design timing cover, but this grinding breaks into the gear case long before clearance is achieved. The timing cover I posted above is a reproduction of an original, clearly identified by the lack of timer register and small filler neck. There is also a casting number on the inside of an original plate; RM-XXXX. The RM casting number prefix is also found on other Bosch accessories

Mine was more to the point that without that timing cover, just making the front mount setup, you need that cover too, along with the side cover if you are going to use it on a generator type engine along with letting people know that they need the correct front cover if they have the setup already.

Will you be making the linkage pivot as well? There’s one shown included with this Bosch unit on EBay
