crankshaft dimensions for regrind

I am in need of the rework dimensions for a crankshaft rework or regrind.
What is the minimum diameter I can get by on the block Journals
and also what is the minimum diameter I can go to on the connecting rod journals.
I do not want to spend unnecessary time and money and find out I have a mail box
post.

.040" grind is what I max out the crank at although I did come across a crank that had been ground 60 thou and had done many years of hard driving before it broke.

How much do you anticipate needing to remove? Unless it's heavily rust pitted, or it's been ground a few times already, it's hard to imagine having to get too extreme.

You also need to make sure you maintain an adequate radius. If the place you take the crankshaft to mostly does modern cranks they may not be aware of this.

We typically stop at .030" under.
Don't forget to have the crankshaft crack inspected with wet mag "magnaflux"
Also make the shop aware they have to touch off the crank flange surface.

While rods are easier to go with .010, .020, .030 or even .040 so you can buy off the shelf replacements if needed, I go with only having the mains done to clean up (all three ending up the same diameter) with 1/8" radiuses, taking off only as needed. Most can be adjusted to whatever size is needed.

On the same subject - Mark: have you used Crankshaft City down your way ? I have a dozen EE cranks I'd like to do something with !

RE Crankshaft city, yes that is where mine got done. They did an ok job, not bad re the turn around. Because of delays, have not even looked at the crank I had them do for over 4 months.
